2014 Utah Truck Driving Championship

The 2014 Utah Truck Driving Championship will be held Friday & Saturday, June 6-7, 2014 at the Utah State FairPark.  Registration will be Friday, June 7th from   4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  This outstanding annual event is again sponsored and conducted by the Utah Safety Management Council.  Drivers will compete in written test, pre-TRIP INSPECTIONS  and a 6-problem driving course in the following categories: NO INTERVIEWS

  • Straight Truck
  • 3- Axle Semi Trailer
  • 4- Axle Semi Trailer
  • 5-Axle Semi Trailer Van
  • 5-Axle Semi Trailer Tank
  • 5-Axle Semi Trailer Flatbed
  • 5-Axle Sleeper Berth
  • Twin Trailers
  • Step Van

The Champion, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category will be recognized, along with their companies at the UTA Annual Safety Awards Banquet on September 19, 2014, at Little America Hotel.  The champion in each category will compete at the 2014 National Truck Driving Championships to be held in Pittsburgh, PA – August 12-16, 2014

 We appreciate the interest and support for the UtahState Truck Driving Championships in past years.  This event promises to be bigger and better this year, with many more drivers and companies participating.  Don’t miss this!  Plan now to participate and register soon.  Contact Larry Luke at C.R. Course Benefits of Motor Fleet Safety Basics

After this course, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize the role of the safety supervisor in implementing quality fleet safety programs.
2. Implement record keeping systems to meet DOT and OSHA regulatory requirements.
3. Conduct basic on-site accident investigations and compile accident reports.
4. Implement procedures to prevent employee injury and control workers’ compensation claims.
5. Apply strategies to hire successfully.
6. Identify and implement strategies to improve driver retention.
7. Identify safety-related training needs and deliver effective safety training programs.
8. Describe the benefits and requirements for becoming a NATMI certified safety professional.

Course Description: This “Fleet Safety 101” program is designed to provide training on effective implementation of safety-related policies and procedures. A training requirement for NATMI’s safety certification program, this course is designed for line-level safety supervisors, with the basic emphasis on what they need to do and when and how to do it. Managers of small fleets and experienced safety professionals seeking a refresher on technical issues will find this course helpful as well.
You’ll gain technical knowledge taught within the context of the importance of safety and applying a quality management approach to safety program implementation. Some pre-reading is also required. The following topics will be covered:

  •  Objectives of a fleet safety program
  • Overview of NATMI certification for safety professionals
  •  DOT/OSHA Record keeping issues and requirements
  •  Reporting and documenting vehicle accidents

“How To Manage Your CSA Score”

Presenter’s Bio: Chris Vernon is the owner of Progressive Reporting Agency where they focus on providing trucking companies with solutions that ease their administrative tasks, simplify regulatory compliance and develop strategies aimed at increasing profits.


Summary of Presentation: This seminar will have something for everyone.  It will begin with some of the basics and will then dive into some of the more complicated aspects of CSA, including how to change your drivers’ attitudes toward CSA and specific techniques for getting the behavior you desire from your drivers.  Here is a general outline:

  • Which violations have the greatest impact on your BASIC scores
  • How scores are calculated (It’s tedious, but vital to understanding how to improve your scores)

Utah Trucking Association Offers All Regulatory Supplies

UTA has, in stock, the most used regulatory supplies for trucking. UTA members receive discounts on supplies. Supplies include driver medical forms, log books, inspection books, placards, federal guidelines, training videos and other items.

  • On Demand Videos: To view all the great titles UTA has to offer for on demand training, click the link here.  Once you let us know which video you would like, we immediately send you a link to that video which will be active for 30 days. This video can be viewed as many times and by as many people as you would like and is $35 to rent.
  • Interactive Training Videos: These online trainings are on an individual basis and allow the administrator to set a bar for each person viewing the video as to what scores they must receive on the various quizzes and assignments throughout the training. The administrator can also see whether or not the driver took the training on time or if they still need to take it. This also provides a paper trail if you need to prove to government authorities that you have taken trainings on the various subjects. The interactive trainings are priced on a point system, $2 for every 1 point. The points are listed next to each video title. Click here to see the complete list of offered interactive trainings.
